Second Saturday swing dance
Why are we doing this?
Hi everyone, Erika here. You'll find me on Facebook or Instagram as @erikavictoriadane. I've been going to Starlight Dance Studio for more than two years now since I moved here from NYC and things opened up again, but I've been doing only West Coast Swing there. It's such a great space so, as a Lindy Hopper, I naturally asked the studio owner, Larisa, "Why aren't there Lindy Hop dances here?" She said she had never had someone who was willing to run them. I asked her what it would take to run one and I got some info...then some months later Larisa reached out saying she had an opening for a Saturday night Lindy Hop dance starting in July and asked if I would organize it. So I did. It's been exciting and fulfilling to watch people enjoy the event as it has grown over the past few months, particularly with the addition of Soul Night, a very special night created by Daniel Breen, Instructor Surbhi, and DJ Patrick Coh. Daniel and others have continued to partner with me to keep this event running for –– well it'll be 1 year in July 2023. I wouldn't be able to keep this event going without the help of Daniel and others who have stepped in to teach, DJ, and of course those who show up month over month to our wide open floor with about 20-30 people who barely cover it. I hope this event continues to provide benefits to the community and we find new opportunities for partnerships with local orgs.
